12 hours of hammering

I have a new roof, I’m still not clear how we got here but I would say my very organized daughter and a persistent sales team have something to do with it. Left to me, it wouldn’t have have replaced until it was leaking on my bed.

But here we are. The roofers were supposed to arrive this morning, Saturday, “between 7.30-8am”. Apparently the workers didn’t get that text because at 7.01am they were unloading their vans and the banging started by 7.45. The noise and banging has continued non-stop all day and it is now 7pm…almost done!

Around 9am the head honcho showed up to let us know the old, 80 year old roof needed an extra layer of plywood and a few other things which doubled the price. I find it hard to believe I (we) are paying thousands of dollars for something we won’t even see.

I bought some chocolates for the neighbors on either side to apologize for the noise.

a small respite

Today we had our Bi monthly infection control meeting. It is the first meeting since two of our team members left-including my boss. So those of us remaining were understandably stressed about taking on new roles in this meeting.  But like a phoenix rising from the ashes we all filled in the empty spaces and gave a new, fresh tone to the meeting.

Our associate VP brought some goodies because we had plenty to celebrate, one of the major categories of infections that I worked tirelessly on is down 32% from last year….32%!!!!!!clabsi 2012.2013 slide

That is fantastic!! and just the ammo I need in my bid for a promotion to my bosses job.

After we got back to our cave  office, we all (3) plus our temporary admin assistant sat around our conference table nibbling on sweets, sipping tea and having some good, bonding laughs!

I am taking a class tomorrow-it’s called “Introduction to Graduate Writing”. I’m tired of being intimidated by these inexperienced nurses in my classes who seem to spend their spare time studying APA format.

Hey, I can write, i can write gud and i will write even gudder after tomorrow! hehehehe

a new week

i am determined to go to work tomorrow. after 4 mind numbing days spent icing and elevating my effing leg, watching the bruising drift down to and settle behind my knee. it is better but the true test will be when i go to work tomorow.

i have a busy morning with lots of walking.

otherwise it will be a quiet week, no doctor’s appoinments (!!) just getting ready for my aunt’s 90th birthday.

rose and i have taken over responsibility from my craft challenged cousin and i completed the first page today. i am no scrapbooker but i think it came out okay?

the birthday girl is on the far left

may we all live to 90!!

Missing the music

i come from a very music oriented family…my parents listened to jazz, blues, folk…i grew up listening to all kinds of music and generally enjoying listening to the radio for news, weather… all that stuff. i did the usual teenage music overload and obsession and as a young parent subjected my kids to lots of music and lots of MTV!!

anyway, i think i’ve mentioned that here in england i have still been able to indulge in my favorite radio station from chicago WXRT. until recently, now i get a very sad disappointing message that says

“we’re sorry, CBS radio is currently unavailable from your location”

sniff, snifffff….i listen to BBC 2 here, the talk shows in the afternoon are interesting but the music is…well….ummmm….boring? pop? repetitive?

james used to be my music download manager… he had itunes and some other website and collected lots of different stuff. when he left though i very short sightedly told him to delete his stuff from the computer not realizing i was seriously limiting my music options.

i wonder how other people listen to their music these days?? anyone still buy albums or CD’s? do you download? and where do you find new music? i really need to start building up a music library again, just feel a little technologically challenged.

and imagine me, the public transport queen with no portable listening device!
